I was inducted
into the Army in Miami, Florida at the Induction Center on October 16, 1961.
The next day I
traveled by train to the Fort Jackson, S.C. Reception Center.
I spent one week
at Fort Jackson then was flown to
Fort Chaffee, AR for B.C.T. (October 1961)
Then after a two
week leave I transferred to Fort Sill, OK for A.I.T. Fire Direction Center
training (January 1962).
From there I was
shipped by a merchant marine ship to Germany (March 1962).
